Just a reminder that the Piedmont Hills game was changed from its original scheduling. The game is a 5:15 game, at Piedmont Hills.
The Lady Dons traveled to Felton today to take on the San Lorenzo Valley Cougars in their final Pre-Season game. After the Holiday Break the season gets going for real against Piedmont Hills. But today it was all about the Cougars. Coming off of two lopsided wins against Westmoor and Gunderson earlier in the week the Lady Dons were carrying some momentum, and they kept it up as they came up against the “A” division Cougars. The first half the Lady Dons seemed to be in control. On offense for most of the 40 minutes the Dons kept SLV on their heals fending off multiple attacks in which Del Mar was unable to capitalize. The half ended 0-0 although it seemed that Del Mar was controlling the momentum of the game. The second half saw a slow transition of momentum, and eventually SLV began to move in and put Del Mar on the defensive. Lady Dons’ defense, #4 Olivia Haddian (So), #10 Sammy Steeves (Jr), #14 Allison Haddian (Fr), and #6 Keyanna Bradford had their hands full but did a great job keeping SLV out of the net. At on point there was a bit of a heart stopper moment when Goalie #12 Suzanne Bernd (Sr) found herself going one on one with a Cougars forward. Bernd made the only decision she could and came out of the box on the attack, she made the right move at the right time and ended up with the ball. The Lady Dons began to gain the momentum back, moving the ball very well up-field, great communication and nice play by #7 Ivy Nguyen (Fr), #24 Siria Ayala (Jr), and #9 Rachel Schauer (Jr) helped to keep the Dons in control, with 8 minutes left in the game the opportunity presented itself and the Lady Dons Capitalized. From 20 yards out Sammy Steeves was able to find #2 Hayley Norman (Sr) in front of the goal, and Hayley pounded it in for the first score of the game. Just minutes later #20 Zuleyni Huizachi (Jr) was in the open. center field, 25 yards out and drilled one in for the second goal. Staying on the offensive the Lady Dons attacked again minutes later, and a great second and third effort from Hayley Norman right in front of the goal resulted in her second goal of the game. With just minutes left, the SLV Cougars seemed deflated, now down by 3 goals all scored in the last 8 minutes of the game.
The Lady Dons now look forward to League play starting after the break, and with the strength on the field and on the bench, its going to be exciting!

After a challenging game last week against Capachino which ended in a 1-1 tie, the Lady Dons had a field day Monday against Westmoor scoring 11 goals to Wetmoor’s 0. The Lady Dons are wrapping up their Pre-Season games this week, as they meet Gunderson @ Del Mar Wednesday and then SLV @ SLV on Friday. League play begins after the Holiday break on January 6 against Piedmont Hills.

In a very quick overview of our first three games of the 2009-2010 season. The Lady Dons defeated the Prospect Panthers on Nov. 21th in a scrimmage @ Del Mar. On Tuesday 12/1. The Dons traveled to Oak Grove for what may be the only Night Game of the season and played tough against a very quick Eagles team. The scoring happened quick in the first half both the Dons and the Eagles managed to score quickly. On the Dons side Freshman Allison Haddian put it in off of a free kick. The game settled down and become a battle of speed (OG) versus defense (DM), which resulted in a stalemate for the remainder of the game and an eventual 1-1 tie.
The next day The Lady Dons where at it again Against Lynbrook at Home. This time the Lady Dons came off the field winners in a 1-0 game where Junior Rachel Schauer put one in off of a corner kick.
